Phoebus High School
Educator
Hampton, Virginina

High school Career and Technical Educator for 12 years mostly in the city of Hampton. Taught subjects including Marketing, Business, College and Career Readiness, Math, Programming, IT Fundamentals, Computer Network Operations, and Cyber Security.

After graduating from James Madison University with a Bachelors in Business Administration, I worked professionally with entrepreneurial goals in mind. After supplementing my meager income by coaching junior varsity boys high school soccer and substitute teaching I decided to complete the Career Switcher Program through ODU and earned my teaching license.

Although I began my career as a marketing and business teacher I have gone through a number of changes by choice and by chance. The two moments that ultimately led me to my current role in teaching was the time I spent teaching students computer science concepts in an alternative school and the request by my curriculum leader to move to a different high school in our district and “remake” the Computer Science and IT program to prepare for our move to an academy model where students have increased voice and choice in their education pathway while in high school.

After that move from Hampton High School to Phoebus High School I have remade the original CS and IT program into the Programming and Cyber Security Pathway within the Academy of Engineering, Manufacturing, and Cybersecurity. I look forward to what the future holds with the content I am currently teaching and see the great importance it has for our students.
